Multiple tahini products linked to Salmonella outbreak; recall initiated

A company in Israel is recalling its tahini products packaged under five brands because a sample tested positive for a strain of Salmonella Concord that has infected people in the United States. Achdut LTD. of Ariel, Israel, announced the recall of its tahini products Nov. 27 as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was posting. Sesame being at the origin of severe pathogen contamination once again is no coincidence. The value creation chain of this seed is full of risks linked to its flowering in open fields, but also to the handling and storage conditions in the countries of origin. Only preventive treatment by a vacuum saturated steam injection process after importation and prior to application of the ingredient can prevent recurrent scandals.
